Even with the ever-increasing postal rates, there are still a small group of us who believe in sending handwritten letters and documenting our vacations through postcards. In this class, we will introduce you to the world of mail art and mail swapping. We will discuss how you can use your artistic talents when sending mail, where to find pen pals, postal rules, the best mail swapping sites and all of the interesting items you can send or potentially receive! Each student will create a piece of mail art (we'll mail it for you!), leave with fun mail goodies, and get to play with our awesome typewriter.

Bring one of the following:
a letter filled with raw emotion on anything you want (bring with you to class)
a story that will make me laugh really, really hard (tell it to me in class!)
an introduction to a working comedian
an introduction to someone that TRULY believes in aliens
an invitation to see your tiny house (or connect me with someone who has one!)
fresh flowers, live plants, or dried lavender
homemade or local natural linen sprays
interesting books on solidarity, barter, exchange, alternative economies, or radical education for our Trade School library
something else you’d like to offer (you will coordinate a 1-1 exchange with the teacher)
something with the Trade School logo on it (bunting, posters, art, photographs)
to volunteer for this class as a facilitator (we’ll send you info!)
typewriter ribbon
X-Files memorabilia

About the teacher, Brittany West

Brittany has been a part of Trade School since co-founding the Indianapolis branch in 2012. Through organizing she has discovered a profound love for bartering, sustainability, practical skills, solidarity economies, and cooperatives. Today, she works with organizers globally to open new Trade School chapters and write a Trade School book that is being published late 2016!
