Feel better, get healthy, save money, help communities and protect the planet all at the same time! :) Going eco-friendly doesn't have to be difficult or expensive, in fact, you might be surprised at how simple it can be to make the switch, and how you'll actually be able to save money when you do. It's not about turning into some new age hippie tree hugger holding placards to go vegetarian for the planet. There are A LOT of things we can do just by rethinking our daily decisions: from how we eat, shop, travel, and do business, to how we think, act, and influence others in our desire to be more eco-friendly ourselves. In this discussion, I'll be sharing some of the tips we've gathered at www.muni.com.ph on reducing your waste, eating for the planet, conscious consumption, etc., and I certainly hope that there will be an open exchange of ideas as well.

About the teacher, Cy and Kai Cruz

This class features the insights of a husband and wife tandem who are creative brains by day, and neophyte gardeners and eco-warriors by heart. Cy Cruz is a semi-retired Group Marketing Head turned Restaurant Marketing Consultant. Kai Cruz on the other hand is the co-founder of the uber successful wedding blog called The Rebellious Brides as well as a Product Development Manager in GMA 7. In 2009, the Ondoy tragedy and personal health concerns have made the couple rethink their lifestyle. From trial and error, they have eventually learned that the way to a happy, fulfilling, and healthy home is actually going back to basics--growing plants and eco living. The couple doesn't think they have a green thumb per se. But somehow, they've managed to grow their own urban garden. In less than a year, they now have herbs, flowers, baby trees, vines, and various plants in their care. What's more, they are proud to say that they've converted almost all of their household products to organic by around 90%. The couple lives in a modest neighborhood and they are a living testament to the fact that having a garden and switching to eco living can be quite easy and fulfilling. In this class you will learn the many benefits of urban gardening and eco living. The world is changing--climate change and health concerns are almost becoming a daily concern. It is time to re-think our lifestyle and this is a good way to start.

You may wear the most fashionable dress and use the best makeup, but without the RIGHT POSTURE you will not be able to justify what you wear. Good posture will make you feel better and confident. It is important to maintain a healthy mind and body. When you practice correct posture, your body is in proper alignment however it requires training your body to stand, walk, sit and lie in positions where the least strain is placed on supporting muscles and ligaments during movement or weight-bearing activities. Being aware of how you stand, sit and walk as we do some posture tests during the class will help you take the necessary actions to fix it and enjoy the benefits. Keep your head up and don’t let anything get to you. Always keep good posture. - Dante Bichette Jr. -

To those who want to play guitar in a bluesy way (for beginners). Learn some basics of the blues and awesome improvising that would amaze your friends. You don't need any background in music theory or anything fancy from a music class. All I ask is the appreciation of the music or the openness to it. You can come in like a clean slate, but it would be a plus if you know at least some chords. Just bring a guitar with you and join me in this class! In the end of the class, I assure you that, at the least, you will be able to play improvised solos.

Any food/drink GC

Ok, so not everyone can sing. But chances are you can stand to learn a thing or two about singing. The objective of this class is not to make you eligible for The Voice PH. It's just to make you sound - er, acceptable - whenever you go to a karaoke club. Learn the basics about breathing, modulation, pitch, tone, projection, and colour (yes, sound has colour) when it comes to chorale singing. This is, after all, patterned after Glee - which means singing in a choir or group. If we're lucky, we can actually finish a song in harmony. Let's try, shall we? Open to four ladies and four gentlemen only (We need to balance the sound and working in a small group helps us listen to each other. Plus it's stressful teaching 20 people how to sing.) This is an interactive workshop, so expect to do some vocalization ;) It's all for the love of music, so please don't feel intimidated. Just come and have fun! Remember, I'm not promising you anything - I just love to sing, but I can't say I'm good at it. *** CLASS UPDATE - all places for females are now FULL. Men only, please. ***

Bring one of the following:

Hi everyone! I'm Cristina Raposa a blogger (http://stylespresso.com) and a wanderer currently living in Manila. I have been asked quite a lot about how I was able to travel frequently. Example, I recently went to a solo trip to Hanoi-Luang Prabang-Bangkok 10 days for 30,000 pesos (including airfare). Traveling does not have to hurt your wallet. I'd like to share some tips and tricks of the trade I know and have learned through traveling. That dream destination doesn't have to cost you a lot and I will be more than happy to help get you started and enjoy traveling as much as I do! Exploring the Body Clock

2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.
Commune (Salcedo Village, Makati)
Liberty Plaza, 102 H.V. Dela Costa Street, Salcedo Village
Makati City PH

The circadian rhythm is a natural biological process that follows defined cycles of time. When we say “body clock”, we are actually thinking about the how this internal timing is in relation to the activities we keep. How synchronized one’s internal timing is to the real, external time refers to the chronotype. The cycle of sleep and wakefulness is just one of the bodily processes that comprise the human circadian system. All body organs have their own timing, and these come together in the circadian system as a “normal” daily rhythm synchronized to the day-night cycle. These bodily processes influence the way we cope with our environment and our activities. However, modern-day innovations may encourage routines that are not necessarily in step with our internal timing, hence possibly affecting our function and health. Perhaps we have wondered: What happens to us if the circadian system is challenged consciously, such as when we put off sleeping to finish assignments or surf the internet? How likely is it that we will be unwell if our schedule is not synchronized to internal timing, such as when working in night shifts? Since our daily routines gradually change (“I need to sleep earlier nowadays!”), does this mean one’s chronotype is also a characteristic that changes with age? This session aims to share insights on what we know about the human biological clock or chronotype, what we can learn by studying the Filipino chronotype, and the potential of using internal timing in promoting health and productivity among Filipinos of all ages.

TS Manila Book Swap and Open House

2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.
Commune (Salcedo Village, Makati)
Liberty Plaza, 102 H.V. Dela Costa Street, Salcedo Village
Makati City PH

If you have new or pre-loved books that need new homes, come join us at our first ever book swap and open house! Trade books with other participants and learn what's in store at Trade School Manila for the rest of the year. Help TS Manila grow by sharing your ideas with us. This event is open for book swappers, potential teachers, partners, volunteers or those who just want to hang out at hip Commune for a couple of hours! :) As part of this event, we are urging everyone to bring used textbooks or children's books to be donated to a public school library. SOME REMINDERS AND HOW THE EVENT WILL WORK: 1. Book swap participants can bring a repository of books they want to trade with other participants. There won't be a limit to the books you can bring. Want to get rid of some Nora Roberts or Stephen King and get some John Green or Neil Gaiman in return? Then this event is for you! 2. You won't have a station of your own, but you can go around and talk to other participants what book you would like to swap. Trade School Manila won't have a say on who gets the book. It will all fall in the participant's hand as to whom he/she would trade the book with. 3. This event is also an open house for Trade School Manila. If you have plans to teach, attend class or volunteer for our next run, you can talk to some of our current volunteers. Each person will be identified with a name tag, so you won't have a hard time finding one (hopefully!). 4. As part of this event, we are urging everyone to bring extra textbooks, workbooks, children's books for our book drive. We promise to find a new home for the books that you will be donating! 5. We would also appreciate it if you can order a beverage or snack from our partner venue.
