Your friends at Trade School Indy will be there as part of the exhibit. Disasters and emergency situations, like the Zombie Apocalypse strike quickly and without warning. What would you do if your basic services—water, gas, electricity or communications—were cut off? Use your brain, before someone else does by learning how to cope with disaster by planning ahead. Local officials and relief workers may not be able to reach everyone right away. You can deal with disaster better by preparing in advance and by working with those in your support network: your family, neighbors and friends as a team.

The Amazing Honey Bee

6:30pm to 8:00pm
Indy City Market (Upstairs North Mezzanine)
The City Market at 222 East Market Street
Indianapolis

The purpose of this class is to educate people about the amazing world of the honey bee. You will finish this class with a better understanding of the importance of this bee’s relationship and influence on the human race. The honey bee is an incredible little insect whose well-being is closely linked to our own. Join the class and let me explain why we need them and they need us. Times are tough right now for the honey bee and it is through no fault of their own. Stop by and learn what YOU can do to make their lives better even if you don't have plans to have bees of your own. One of my greatest joys is helping new beekeepers get started by teaching them about bees and helping them get started at the lowest possible cost. All such assistance is pro bono. It is anticipated that this will be the first class of a short series… depending on the continued interest shown.. A small sampling of what will be discussed in these classes includes the following in no particular order: An overview - why we need them and they need us A brief history - World - National - Local The terminology - the vocabulary of beekeepers The equipment - hands on .. in class The different bees and their varying duties. The basic biology involved The products of the hive and... ANYTHING else the class is interested in. Each class member is encouraged to ask questions during the class. The teaching format will be a combination of an open discussion and lecture. Kids are welcome if they are old enough to comprehend the subject matter being discussed. Hoping to see you there. Until then….. BEE nice!

Taught by Terry Plank

I am a Danville, Indiana beekeeper that desires to educate the general public about the incredible world of the honey bee. The honey bees are constantly being confronted with new challenges, some of which threaten their very existence. I am an avid student of these bees and enjoy sharing my knowledge with those who are interested. I do this strictly as a hobby but am passionate about it. < Some say addicted. ;-) > -=- terry -=-

Just as the types of movies we have watched have changed over the past century, so have the ways that we have watched those movies. From screenings in vaudeville halls and nickelodeons to early single-screen theaters and the grand movie palaces that followed, and from the rise and fall of drive-ins and grindhouses to the evolution of the modern-day multiplex, this course will cover the changing ways that we have gone to the movies in Indy, from the dawn of silent films to the current era. In addition to the now-vanished theaters that once thrived in Indianapolis, the course also will look into the locations of theaters in and near the Circle City, what kinds of movies they showed over the years, and how changes in these areas reflected the evolution of the city's population. Contemporary newspaper advertisements and other sources will be used to illustrate and illuminate the changing movie scene in Indianapolis over the past century, and the course also will mention changes in other ways of watching movies in Indianapolis, from broadcasts on local television stations to home video rental outlets and beyond.

Taught by Mike MacCollum

I am a long time movie fan, and also have a great interest in local movie theaters. In case that sentence is just too obvious, given the course description, I am also a vegetarian and have a dog, Sarah, who really likes to walk, and walk, and walk.

I am interested in teaching a course on free association writing in response to watching films. I would like to screen a short a film or two during the session, then have participants in the course journal freely without thinking about their experience after watching the film(s). It can be a critique of the film itself, how it made the viewer feel, or whatever the first thing comes to mind. Discussion of the film after the writing prompt will follow and sharing what was written is encouraged, but not required. The goal of this course is to teach others how to become more perceptive to what they are seeing/experiencing and how to express those thoughts onto paper or verbally during discussion in a more non traditional sense.
